ASA talks breaking America, being a cultural ambassador for Nigeria, new album & more with Vogue Italia’s Vogue Black

Asa recently sat down with Vogue Itailia’s Vogue Black (the section devoted to black talent in fashion), to discuss her new album, touring, being a cultural amabssador for Nigeria & breaking America.
Being a Nigerian & African has greatly influenced her music, but unlike Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who she grew up listening to she is not concerned with waving the Nigeria flag as a cultural ambassador, saying ”Right now, I belong to the world,”
On breaking America, she says;
It’s every musician’s dream to make it in America. I do hope to tour there more, but for now, I’m content with focusing on Europe and Africa. For me, it all started in Lagos
She also chatted with AlloMusic about the musicality of the Yoruba language & expressing herself in her mother tongue. See video after the jump.

Her new album Beautiful Imperfection has earned rave reviews & topped the iTunes music chart in France, with the singer being described by BBC Music as “a twenty-first century Bob Marley”.
ASA is doing it major this year, I think the album is grammy worthy and I hope she gets nominated. She starts touring in 2011, check on tour dates here for when she’ll be in your hood.
