Team Nigeria threatens Newspaper

OFFICIALS of Team Nigeria to the on-going Commonwealth Games in India have vehemently denied a newspaper report which alleged that a Nigerian Doctor got treated for an ailment – rheumatoid arthritis.
A Namibian official and not a Nigerian was said to have been the one who got treated. A furious Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Tunde Popoola described the report as embarrassing
, untrue, and damaging to the fine conduct of officials and athletes in the Games. He has therefore ordered the Newspaper, hindustantimes, to make a retraction.
The said report claimed that the “Nigerian Doctor who had been nursing the arthritis for years got her knee replaced within a week of landing in Delhi. “The cost for the “Nigerian” delegate was zero while the tax payers of India paid the bill”, the paper wrote.
“That report was in bad faith. It’s a lie. A total lie and an insult to Nigerians. We want it corrected”, Chef de Mission of Nigeria to the Games, Elias Gora fumed
“None of our Doctors went for any surgery. We were shocked to read such an embarrassing story”, Dr Abdulkadir Mua’zu confirmed.
The news report claimed that the “Nigerian” was not the only one who came to India under the pretext of the Games only to seek medical help in a country that is fast becoming a medical haven to many. More than 1,400 have visited the Village Polyclinic.
Out of these, 224 came for dental check_ups and 140 for eye_related tests. Among women, more than 100 came for preventive ultrasounds. As many as 300 visited the polyclinics for cardiac check_ups.
The Newspaper claimed that countries like Ghana , Kenya , Cameroun , Samoa, Cook Island and Northern Ireland have used the Polyclinics facilities the most.
