I was nervous appearing half nude - Sylvia MBGN

Sylvia, a native of Anambra State for winning the crown, became a proud owner of a brand-new Hyundai car and cash prize of N3million. In this interview Sylvia who said standing half naked before the audience made her nervous shares her dream and aspiration as the new Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN). Enjoy.
Did you ever imagine you’ll become the beauty queen?
Yes I did and it was fun all the way at the pageant. (Laughs).

Why did you enter for the contest?
I went there because I wanted to have fun and
more after the jump

at the same time clinch the crown.
How did you get involved?
A friend of mine told me about the pageant and I got the form. But before now, I knew about the pageant and I’d heard many good things about it. I picked the form at the Silverbird Galleria, went for the first screening in Port-Harcourt and scaled through. The second screening was held in Lagos-I also scaled through.
Are you based in Port-Harcourt?
No, I live in Lagos. So why did you go all the way to Port-Harcourt? I was in Port-Harcourt for a wedding and was less busy so, I decided to attend the screening.
So what went through your mind when you passed the screening?
I was just wondering whether I’d be able to cope with the challenges. Were you not intimidated by the number of girls who also came for the screening? Not at all. And what do you think is responsible for your winning? Nothing and no one but God. Did you parents know you put in for it? No, I didn’t tell anybody until I scaled through the screening. What did you tell your boyfriend? I don’t have a boyfriend. You have no boyfriend? I don’t have a boyfriend So how did your parent get to know about it? I told my mother after I scaled through the last audition. She was so excited about it. She was happy for me because she believed in me. And what did you father say about it? He was happy too. How many siblings do you have? We are five in number-three girls and two boys and I’m the last. Does that mean that we still have more beauties queens in the house? They are all married-I’m the only unmarried among all. What was your experience like in the house during the pageant? It was wonderful and it’s an experience I won’t forget in a hurry. What did you learn there? How to endure Endure what, pain? Laughs. Sometimes, some of the girls get on my nerves. So I learned how to endure their weakness. Apart from endurance, what other things did you learn? I also learned to be humble Have you ever stood half naked before strangers? No. So how did you feel when you were asked to stand half naked before strangers? Well, I wasn’t really worried but I must confess that at first, I was nervous that I’d be wearing the bikini in front of everyone. But later, the nervousness left. So where did, you get the courage. ? From my mother and God. What went through your mind after you were crowned queen? I was dazed but after some seconds, I got myself back If given the opportunity to hide a part of your body, what part would that be? Why would I want to hide anywhere? Why did you cry after you were crowned queen? It was tears of joy. What went through your mind after you won all that money? It was how I’m going to help the society. I need to make an impact in the lives of people. Why would you think of giving away the money when the money hasn’t been given to you yet? I should think of giving because givers never lack. Who was the first person that called you after you won? My mother was there but my father wasn’t. So it was my father whom I called first. Where was he? He was in London. What does daddy do? He’s a business man …And your mother? She works with First Bank. Whom did you get your beauty from? My father. Is your mother not beautiful? She is but I love my father so much. What project would you like to use the money for? I’ll like to give aids to children who don’t have the opportunity to go to school. Miss World is very competitive. Do you have what it takes to win? Yes I do How? I have the confidence, charisma and the voice. How do you describe yourself? I’m down to earth. Are you the party type? No, I’m not. In fact, I’ve never been to a club. I go to parties when necessary And you are a student? Yes. I’m a student of the University of Lagos. I’m in my third year. So how many of your friends have called? Many of them have called and they are happy for me. What’s your daily routine like? When I wake up in the morning, I say my prayers, I go greet my father and I wait for my breakfast You wait for your breakfast-don’t you cook? My mother does that and I help out sometimes You don’t wear makeup? I do but it depends on the kind of dress I want to wear. But I don’t like heavy ones. Can speak about beauty routine? I wake up in the morning, I wash my face and take a glass of water, shower and get dressed. And at night? I wash off my make up and shower.

Quote of the day:"'If i would marry him , i don't know"........Genevieve Nnaji on D'banj

In an interview Genevieve Nnaji granted recently , she addressed her  rumoured relationship with dbanj, Excerpts........

You had a brilliant music video with Dbanj in Fall in Love, you guys had great chemistry and there have been rumours that you two are an item. He was at your birthday party in London in May, if all the circumstances are right, will you say yes to marriage with Dbanj?

First of all I have to
more after the jump
agree within myself that I actually want to get married. If I would marry him, I don’t know. I think my life is already chaotic as it is being one celebrity. So, it’s a no.

When you talk about not getting married, what is it with marriage that you find repulsive?

No, I don’t find marriage repulsive but everyday I learn from married people about what not to do when it comes to marriage. I think I’ve just learnt the bad things about marriage before the good ones. There is constant discouragement but I just know for a fact that when I find the right person I will definitely not think about it. Marriage should be about finding the right person, finding your soul mate, not necessarily in receiving love.

You’ve not met that person yet?

I’m 32, I’ve been busy for 12 years and I’m still busy.

Seeing that you’re so busy, how can a guy break down the barriers and show love to you?

If I have to tell a guy what to do then he’s not a man! (Laughs).

When asked about the rumoured James Bond girl role, she laughed and said
"I overhead the rumour but I don't think it's a rumour because the movie hasn't been shot yet and so I'm waiting for the call. I'm on standby. I always say, 'from people's lips to Gos's ears'.

Hmm!!! Thought they have confirmed another actress as the new bond girl?

As a celeb my mum smacked me publicly......I said I will retire by 30 : Beyonce (Pierce Morgan interview...Video)

Beyonce sat down recently with pierce morgan of cnn for an indepth interview. she talked about her relationship with her hubby jay-z prior to their marriage, the true meaning of a diva amongst other issues. excerpts.......
On her relationship with Jay-Z
Jay and I have kind of made a decision to be known for our music and not our relationships or scandals. It’s hard sometimes because I’m like” Okay, I can’t talk about him” but he’s amazing.

On meeting Jay-Z
I definitely
more and watch the video after the jump

had a very natural friendship and connection with him. We’ve been together for a very long time and I’m very happy.

On turning 30 and if a baby is in her future
I always said I’d have a baby at 30. I’m 29. But I also said I was going to retire at 30. I’m not retiring.

On performing in front of 175,000 people at Glastonbury
Well before I performed I was so scared. I was like a leave shaking. I was really, really afraid. I had to say “Forget that it’s 175,000 people, pretend like it’s just the date you did two days ago. You’ve been doing this your whole life. Just have fun.” We all got together and said our prayer, we took our breaths and tried to exhale all the negativity. I just had to tell myself I deserve it.  I’m a diva,  I’ve worked hard and I psyched myself up. Once you hear the crowd and pass the first couple of minutes then it’s time to rock and it’s time to have a good time and enjoy the optimum.

On referring to herself ‘as a diva’ and being proud of it
Well because I’ve met what a diva is supposed to be. I’ve met Patti Labelle and Tina Turner and I’ve met these incredible women that are graceful.

On What A Diva Is
Graceful, talented, strong, fearless, brave, and someone with humility. I think it’s an appropriate time to be a diva. I did not show up in my costume that I wore yesterday because it’s appropriate for the stage. There’s a certain mentality and certain aura that’s appropriate for the stage but it’s only appropriate for the stage.

On her parents teaching her how to work hard
My mother worked 13 hours a day and I never heard her complain. She worked until her feet were callused. My father was such an incredible entrepreneur and any and everything he said he would have, he worked until he had it. He taught me there’s no such thing as ‘no’ and I had a lot of great support. I think the support is really a huge factor in my success. Knowing that if something didn’t work out, I still was loved and having that security is really important.

On the values her mother has instilled in her
[She taught me that] Beauty fades and who you are from within is forever. Be a woman of your word and hard work. She is always correcting me and I feel like it doesn’t matter if you are the janitor or the President, everyone is the same. Making sure I keep my humility. I remember when we first had our single on the radio and I was starting to feel like I was hot. We were in the record store and she was talking to me and I started singing because I didn’t wanna hear whatever she was saying. I was about 15 and the song was playing on the radio and I’m like ‘yea’ and these guys were looking like ‘ouh that’s Beyonce!’ and I thought I was hot. She smacked the crap out of me in that store and sent me to the car. She said, ‘I don’t care what song you have on the radio, you are my child. You do not disrespect me!’ and I will never forget it.

Africans still have the colonial mentality.......Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve Nnaji  was in Ghana recently for her new movie 'The Mirror Boy' where she spoke exclusively to etv’s J.O.T. Agyeman on 100 Degrees.
She adressed issues including the role in 'James Bond' which was given to another actress and when she was asked the question; what do you represent? She responded “I represent every young woman or man out there who feels they are
more and watch the interview after the jump
not privileged enough, not educated enough, not beautiful enough, not exposed enough.”

She reiterated her philosophy that you can only delay destiny but you can’t stop it when she spoke about her country Nigeria. A country where she admitted has several challenges which need attention. “Africans still have the colonial mentality” Genevieve said.
‘We seem to want approval from the ‘Almighty’ – not the one up there. The continent is divided and there is discrimination. We are our own natural disaster” Nnaji also revealed her dislike for those who take advantage of others and ride on their backs to become successful.
The Award winning actress denied she had even been considered for a role in the new James Bond movie but said she would jump at a good script which for her was more important than who her co actors are in a movie.

Will Smith schools us on what 'Men really Want' in a relationship

In a recent interview with Essence magazine , actor Will Smith revealed the screts to a happy relationship with your beau, schooling us on not only love and marriage, but what men need to be happy. Excerpts.....

If You Marry Your Best Friend, You’re Good
Every man wants to marry his homie, Will explained. A lot of women will impress them, but it’s the one they can

more after the jump

always laugh with and be themselves with that will ultimately impress them the most
If you can be yourselves around each other, 100 percent of the time, and they can make you life like no one else can, you’ll never have a dull moment together.

Remind Him of What He Has
When you start to feel that you’re nagging your husband to the point of no return and nothing you’re saying is getting through, Will suggests you try a new approach. Hold him close, look him right in the eyes, and tell him that you love him, you’re right there, and you always will be, BUT you need him to pick his socks up – right now.  As Will puts it, it’s important to remind him that your request is coming from a good place, and what you want is a small thing in the grand scheme of things. Um, genius!

All Men Need A Little Space
If you don’t give your husband thirty minutes to himself when he first gets home he’ll stop coming home,” Will told me, straight up. (You’re thinking, no way, right? I did too!) When I asked Will when a wife was supposed to say her piece, he responded, “anytime after that.” Will reminded me that everyone’s home needs to feel like a happy place, and it won’t if you’re “greeted with negativity” every time you enter the door. Touché Will. Talk about a pause for the cause.
Focus on Balance and Excitement Always
According to Will and Jada’s way of thinking about marriage, maintaining a happy union isn’t just about making time for one another, it’s about making the time count too. Excitement and mystery are everything, he said. Surprise them, let them know you love them, laugh together – whatever it takes to put a smile on their face.

Genevieve and I Are Past, I am Single & Searching.......D'banj

YOU HAVE ATTAINED A HEIGHT THAT NO ONE HAS EVER REACHED IN A LONG TIME; WHAT IS THE SECRET?
It’s just God, hard-work, believing in Him and following your dreams. So the secret is God nothing more.

THERE ARE MUST BE SOME THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE APPLIED PERSONALLY ASIDE GOD?
I’m very positive and more importantly I invest in myself. People may call it any name, it’s what I believe that I believe, so it’s always good to believe in yourself and follow your dreams. However, it’s still God.

YOU ARE A WELL CELEBRATED ARTISTE BUT WHEN WILL YOU SETTLE DOWN?
(Pause) when I find the right person. I can marry when

more after the jump
I see the right person to marry.

YOU’VE GOT THE RIGHT PERSON?
No!

HOW ABOUT GENEVIEVE?
We’re not….why do you people keep calling Genevieve, that’s a long time we’ve even got over that but basically am still single and searching now.

HOW WOULD YOU KNOW THE RIGHT PERSON?
If I see her, I will know.

MY MAMA IS A WIDOW, MAYBE YOU CAN COME FOR HER, CAN YOU TRY HER OUT?
Your Mama, no! I won’t do that, what for! You’re not serious…ah ah ah, oh my God!

SO, WHAT IS THE GREATEST MISTAKE YOU HAVE EVER MADE?
I don’t think it’s greatest, I make mistakes but none can be stated to be greatest. One mistake I have ever made…I am trying to remember…to me everything that I have done has come out to be a success, even the ones I think they are mistakes, there are still something good that still come out of them.

IN THE CAUSE OF UNFORESEEN DISASTERS, WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU?
Obviously I will start from where I meet yourself, you re-arrange now. We meet obstacles everyday, I have been trying to reach this stage for years and assuming I didn’t feature Snopp Doggy I would have featured someone else. If you like take everything I have from me, as long as I have my life, I will start all over again because good name is better than silver and gold and I’m D’banj till kingdom comes.

WITH YOUR PRESENT STATUS, IT’S OBVIOUS YOU WON’T HAVE TIME FOR GOD; WHAT’S YOUR VIEW?
Who say so and moreover God is everywhere. I can serve Him in any country that I find myself, He understands the nature of my job and I know He will answer me in any part of the world I call Him.

HOW RELIGIOUS ARE YOU?
I can’t tell you how close I am to God because it’s only Him that knows but I have a relationship with Him and when I talk to Him He answers me. I told Him I wanted a breakthrough, He did, I said I wanted a collabo with this and that, He made it possible, an MTV Award, He gave me and He has never given me what I don’t like.

HAVE YOU TALKED TO GOD ABOUT YOU SEARCHING FOR A WIFE?
Of course.

WHY HASN’T HE ANSWERED YOU SINCE HE ANSWERS YOU IN EVERYTHING YOU DO?
Who says He hasn’t, you never know when it comes to relationship, your best friend might be your wife and you might still be searching. Like when I met Don Jazzy he wasn’t my friend but now he is my best friend and that was about 10 years ago, it might be a person that I have dated before or a new person but I believe God will do it at the right time.

DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU FINALLY GET MARRIED; YOU WILL CHEAT ON YOUR WIFE?
I don’t know, I don’t think about that because my dad never cheated on my mum and I think he is one of the most faithful human being I know.

ARE YOU PLANNING TO FOLLOW HIS FOOTSTEPS?
I’m not planning to but I came from him, I must have something in common with him and when I get married I will know but right now I don’t.

YOU ARE DIFFERENT IN REAL LIFE TO THE D’BANJ THAT SINGS?
I’m Gemini, for me I know Showbiz is an act so you act it, when I came people were like Koko was sex but I didn’t say Koko was sex but they decided to affiliate the word to some other things and we gave them what they wanted but deep down I still defecate and pee like you.

BUT SOME PEOPLE RELATE YOU AND YOUR MUSIC TO SEX?
Those are the people that listen with one ear and they forget to hear my other good music; people just say whatever they want to say and I’m tired of convincing people and if they take their time to listen to the ballads they would know I’m an entertainer and that doesn’t mean people like me does not know what they are doing.

HOW DO YOU RELAX CONSIDERING YOUR TIGHT SCHEDULES?
I love movies especially series, sometimes I play games with friends and I also go to Koko Lounge to unwind.

OBVIOUSLY, YOU DON’T WATCH THESE MOVIES WITH JUST YOUR
MALE FRIENDS ALONE…
Well, that’s left for you to judge, you can fill in the gaps….

HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR FEMALE FANS?
I don’t really have much female fans.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN GIRLS THROW THEMSELVES AT YOU?
They are usually prevented and I don’t get to see them because my people around me don’t let them get to that extent and if I get to like you then something might go down. That’s now left for me to decide…

DO YOU WANT TO TELL ME THAT YOU DON’T HAVE A GIRLFRIEND
YOU RELAX WITH AFTER A HECTIC SHOW?
No, I don’t but I don’t tell you that I don’t f**k.

SOME SAY YOUR STYLE IS NOT NATURAL, THEY THINK YOU DO DRUGS?
That’s what I also hear that I crack and smoke weeds too but ask my father, I was born like this, I mean very hyper. Anytime I try to drink something like Hennessy I was so dull and I’m a very lively person. Some say it’s when am high that I use glasses, it’s a lie, check my eyes out. (He removes glasses)

WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATIONS FOR YOUR SONGS THEN?
From you, everywhere, from God, my environment etc, they all form my sense of inspiration.

WHAT ARE THE MAJOR CHALLENGES YOU HAVE ENCOUNTERED?
In life nobody wants to help and that’s why you need to keep your faith in God and that is why I don’t believe in anybody but God.

AFTER GOING THROUGH ALL THIS, WHAT EFFORTS ARE YOU MAKING TO HELP THE NEXT GENERATION NOT TO ENCOUNTER WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH?
That’s why when I got to America I didn’t take their money but I signed and I moved, I did that to create a structure that my people will not need to beg. No one believed in us until now and in the next two months you will see a collaboration and from there everybody will start doing it because we are pioneers, we have already made it happen.

DO YOU SEE YOURSELF WINNING THE BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION AWARDS?
I don’t know and I don’t think I was nominated because of my collabo with Snopp, in fact, I was once nominated with Tuface in MOBO Awards and he won it but now levels have changed but we still don’t know the criteria that they are using to choose, if they give it to me based on that I will appreciate God the more but I want them to give it to me based on the fact that I have worked very hard.

DO YOU SEE YOURSELF ACTING IN ANY LOCAL OR INTERNATIONAL MOVIE?
They have given me a lot of roles to play that I have turned down except I own the movie and am not ready for that at this moment of my career. I am concentrating on my musical career first, once that is sealed as it has been sealed now, then, I can now consider appearing in Nollywood or Hollywood.

Why i left Hugh Hefner.....Crystal Harris

Crystal Harris finally feels like herself again.
Hugh Hefner's runaway bride says the decision to call off Saturday's nuptials was a big relief.
"For a while, I'd been having second thoughts about
everything, so I haven't really been at peace with myself lately," Harris, 25, told Ryan Seacrest Wednesday morning on his KIIS-FM radio show. "It was all just happening too fast for me."
"I just sat back and thought about it all," she continued. "Is this what I wanted? And it wasn't."
Harris says the Playboy chief – although heartbroken – took the news with tact.
"There was no fight," explains July's Playboy cover girl, prematurely identified as "Mrs. Crystal Hefner." "He understood, and we both agreed that it wasn't the best idea to get married. He was doing it for me because he thought it was what I wanted."
Harris, who says she "wanted to be true to myself," admits, "This isn't the lifestyle for me."
But don't expect Hefner, 85, to find a replacement for his ex-fiancée.
"No, no," Harris tells Seacrest when he asks if the mogul will ever tie the knot again. "He said he was just doing this wedding for me."
As for now, Harris says she is "not seeing someone else," but she is staying busy.
"[I'm] working on a whole album," she says. "I sing and I write. I've been writing songs and I've been having so much fun with it all."

Quote Of The Day........Some directors want you to have real sex in movies...... Queen Nwokoye

So you can’t play semi nude roles?
No way! Nigerians have a way of overdoing things. There are roles that you may not be nude, but you have to do something extra to interpret that role. At times, some directors will even want you to
more after the jump
do the real thing. I can’t act such roles. I’ve done three movies that are not close to what I’m known for. One of the movies is out. Till today, people still call me to talk about the movie. I didn’t have to go all naked in the movie, but I interpreted it very well.

You don’t wear all these revealing clothes, even in real life.
No way. I’m a jeans and tank top person. I love T-shirts a lot. My friends look at dresses each time we go shopping, but I go to the jeans area. It affected me somehow. When I got to the movies and I was given miniskirts and such attire to wear, I found it difficult to wear them.
When are you getting married?
I knew you will ask

My Ex-Husband Does Not Compliment Me -Eucharia Anunobi

She is one of the actresses in Nollywood who have made her mark and permanently registered herself in the minds of people through her various roles since she came to limelight in 1996, when she acted in “Glamour Girls Part 2”. For sometime now, Eucharia Anunobi’s marriage break-up has been the topic of discussion among many with divergent views. The Imo state-born actress who one of her beauty routines is to be stark naked for 30 minutes, is planning on becoming a Pastor. In this heart pouring interview, she reveals more facts about her failed marriage, acting career and her next move.
Is it true you will become a Pastor?
Yes, everyone is meant to be a messenger of God, as long as you call yourself a Christian. Everybody must not, really, stand on the pulpit. But in everything we do in life; within your family, you are meant to be good examples. If on a wider scale when you have to reach out to a bigger audience and the Lord probably calls me to do that, why not? At the fullness of time, as soon as he prepares me, I will pick up the mantle. You can call me an evangelist to be.

It has been a while now that you did a movie. What is happening to you?
A movie of mine got released few weeks ago; it is called “Breaking Heart”. Another one got released a month ago called “My Darling Prince”.

What about your ex-husband?
I am not supposed to

more after the jump
know how he is doing. He never called in the last three years since he abandoned me and my son. He has not bothered to find out how his son is doing.

How is your son doing now?
We thank God Almighty. He is doing well, and God is keeping him for me.
What if your husband decides to come back and say he is sorry. Wouldn’t you give him a second chance. As they say, to err is human but to forgive is divine?
All those options I have thought about and I have realised that he does not compliment me in any way and I believe the Bible tells me that you don’t have to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. If you have friends and you don’t share the same aspirations, you don’t share the same dreams, you are thinking green and the person is thinking black, you can’t work together unless you agree. I do not think we can work together. He is the one that took a walk out; I didn’t take a walk out because I believe in marriage. I believe in staying. I believe in the statement of marriage that marriage is not going to be a bed of roses. But I guess may be he thought life could be a bed of roses and probably there were better things for him to pick outside. So, it is not about me but because I know my Lord wants me to be happy. If he is going and that is the only way I am going to be happy, no way. And if he is coming back, I don’t know if he is going to compliment me in any way.

Don’t you think that you can change him with the words of God?
Nobody changes anyway. God changes people. It is the word of God that will get the right man for me, not him.
Does it mean you did not see all these things before entering into marriage with him?
Nobody is a magician. Nobody is a vision teller. You can’t see tomorrow. You only live on faith, the faith that you see now, the faith that you are like whether you are hygienically clean. I can see you now and know whether you are morally upright. You only take people on what you see on a day-to-day basis. So, you can go ahead and say oh! I know. I see. You might just have an idea on a day-to-day basis, and then you add up to the one on one. So, there is no way I can say I saw that my marriage was going to break-up. Because one, my parents are still married and I don’t believe in divorce / separation. What I know is that problems will come and you believe that by the grace of God, you will be able to solve them.

So your acting career does not have anything to do with the break-up?
Absolutely not. My career does not have anything to do with my break-up. I have been an actress close to 12 years now. That is the better part of my life. So, anyone coming to me should know that I am acting, because I love my job and the person will love me with my job.
How do you get along with your colleagues, or are there some that you cannot actually work with?
I get along with everyone of them. I am one of the actors that is very friendly with every one of them, both female and male. Yes, of course, I might be closer to a few more than others, but I want to believe that we are all friends. I don’t have any problems with anybody, because, one, the job requires that you don’t keep enemies because you never know who you are going to meet along the way.
Thinking back over the years, is there any experience you find very memorable or remarkable that you want to share?
Well, I want to say that when I became born again. Actually, I say to myself, why wasn’t I born again earlier because I found out that being born again does not take anything away from your life. It rather adds to your life. I found out that a lot of people find it difficult to take that bold step to go to the front altar and declare that ‘I’m born again’. They think that God is going to restrict you from doing a lot of things. Yes, really, He does restrict you from doing a lot of things, that will derail you from being a good example to your family and being a candidate for heaven. When you know you have God, you know you have the omni-present watching over you.

Quote Of The Day....It Can't Be You, It Has To Be Some Higher Force......Jay Z On Illuminati Rumours

The King of hip/hop who has the 'baddest chick in the game' on his arm recently sat down with Delta Sky Magazine and discussed how success has affected his music, why his new collaborative album with Kanye West has been delayed, and why he empathizes with the less fortunate. He also voiced his thoughts on the te very controversial “illuminati” rumors.

On the “Watch The Throne” Delays
Ye is just in an extraordinary creative place — so much so that I need to get him to focus so we can finish this. But music is his refuge right now.

On Rumors that he is a part of a secret society
I may sound a little arrogant but I just
more after the jump
think people can’t handle when somebody is successful. Something has gotta be wrong; you gotta be down with some higher power. And I guess when someone else is successful; it makes you feel like maybe you’re a failure. So it can’t be you, it has to be some other force.

On Why He Hasn’t Been Putting Out As Much Music
Success takes you away from the music. Before success, there weren’t interviews or photo shoots, it was just everyday studio. Now it’s a big thing to get in the studio. It’s like a process just to get there. And once I’m there, I have to dial into an emotion.”

On what influenced “Empire State Of Mind”
Where I am, it’s not typical. And my life is not typical for people from where I am from. [Empire State of Mind] is about this metaphorical, aspirational place that you can go and forget who you use to be. You know, to have this brand new start. And I haven’t said this before. I haven’t connected into those sort of emotions. I’m still trying to tap into them as a writer and human being.

On empathizing with the less fortunate
I wish I could have everyone change places for a day. I think that’s all it would take for everything to change. Empathy. It’s easy for me to empathize because I’ve really seen it. I’ve been there so I can never forget that. My job is to speak out and provide opportunity. Of course, [it feels good to be looked up to] and your ego tells you that you want more of that –but you don’t want too much of that. Fame is a super drug. I’ve seen so many people take it and just go the wrong route. I just try to stay quiet and not get caught up in all of the noise of what this means or what my brand means. Just try to remain, you know, a normal human being.

Nigerian Men Are More Caring Than Ghanaian Men.........Yvonne Nelson

Many words have been used to describe Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, but none has been adequate enough to capture the whole essence of this lanky controversial actress. In this interview with SAMUEL OLATUNJI, she sheds more light on issues surrounding her personality.

You have not been regular in Nigerian movies, but you seem to be popular here, how come?

Well, it’s not like I am
more  after the jump

not regular there, but I have been doing a lot recently.

People just love you; is it because of what you do, or there is something that attracts them to you?

Well, I have a fan base on facebook and people say I do my roles as if it is real and they appreciate the work I do and that’s why they love me. And at times, it is God. I give God all the credit.

What is it between you and the Ghanaian press; they don’t seem to like you, do they?

I don’t know, but you can’t say they don’t seem to like me...

But they write negative things about you and you know a couple of them are my friends.

I don’t know. And seriously, I have no idea.

Is it because you are rude to them or you don’t relate well with them?

How can you say I am rude to them, if I say something to them and they write negative things about me, but they do likewise to other people, so that’s how they write.

But yours is more pronounced than other actresses I know.

I don’t know, you are a journalist and you know how people write anything just because they want to sell papers and all that, so I don’t really know why they write stuff like that. And if you say anything, they would say she is arrogant and all that and my management always tell me not to trade issues with them. And I guess that is why they would say she is rude and doesn’t want to talk to anybody.

How has life been with you?

Great, it is wonderful, and I am telling you it is great.

How is it with you since the beginning of this year?

Good, I have a hairline coming out soon.

You mean hair products?

Yes, and I have my foundation, which I can say is doing very well and I get recommendations from everywhere and the CNN is talking about it too. And in June I would be going for a conference in France concerning the foundation, and aside that, I am doing other charity stuff as well.

How about the story of you being banned for a year?

As you read it on the net, the same way I read it on the Internet too. Nobody has come to give me an official letter or has contacted me to say I have been banned. It started as a rumour and I can tell you that I don’t know anything about it. I can’t even comment on it.

But they have not been calling you for movies?

I am shocked since I heard the story and you know Ghana is a small place unlike Nigeria, they hardly shoot movies all the time, and it is mainly done in Accra. I have been busy lately travelling up and down for so many things and maybe when they call my phone it does not come through.

So, it is not as if the ban has taken jobs off you?

I am not even aware of any ban because nobody as given me any letter to that effect, and it is not a problem if they don’t really call you for jobs, because I have been busy doing other stuffs. It is not as if I have been sitting down at home doing nothing; I have been busy doing other stuffs.

Why didn’t you do something about the rumour?

You know I don’t want to talk about that, it is not important to me right now. My
management is working on it and I just don’t want to bother myself over it.

Is there any issue between you and Jackie?

There is no issue between us. It is the press that always wants to bring something that is not there. The last time we saw, we were cool and we had fun together. I don’t know where they got the word that Jackie and I have an issue. We are colleagues and it is not as if we call everyday; when you are working, you see each other and you relate with each other. You do your job, there is nothing going on between the two of us.

I have this impression that you don’t relate well with your other colleagues, do you?

Who told you so, I am cool with all my colleagues, I don’t have issues with anyone of them and I am okay with them all.

Would you say you are happy as a person?

I am very happy as a person because so many things that happen to me now is because of God and anything that happens is for a reason?

Has life been fair to you?

Yes, life has been good to me and whatever you might think, life is fair and I have just finished my degree and it is good; you don’t have to allow things to break you.

You went to school as a star?

Yes, I have a degree in Human Resource Management and I would be doing my MBA soon.

When did you finish your degree course?

I graduated last year October.

Is it from the University of Ghana?

No, from a private university in Ghana

Were you treated like a star there?

No, I was just like every other regular student in school and I was treated the same way every other student was treated.

Did you dream of being an actress when you grow up?

No, I wanted to be a singer, not even a singer but a rapper, because I was into Hip Hop.

When did your journey start as an actress?

It started in 2005.

That was when you contested Miss Ghana beauty pageant?

Yeah.

After then, how did you get into acting?

I had a call right after Miss Ghana, and that was how it started,

And you have not looked back since then?

No, I haven’t.

Did you experience any malice from people?

Yes.

What was childhood like?

I grew up like every average Ghanaian child.

Was growing up difficult or was it a bed of roses?

Not at all, everything was okay and I have good memories of growing up.

How old is Yvonne?

I am in my twenties.

Do you take all your roles seriously?

Yes…

…Even if you have to act semi-dressed?

Yes, it is a role, and if it is something I have to do, then, I don’t have a problem with that as long as I don’t have to go stark nude on screen.

What is the farthest you have gone in a movie?

In Prince’s Bride, my back was all bare and you would think I am naked, but I was actually covered in front.

Even your butt?

No, just my back.

If the pay is right and the movie is good, would you act nude?

No, I can never do it. The best I can do is show a bit of skin, but I can’t go naked.

But, can you show your boobs?

No, I can never show my boobs, how can I show my boobs?

But it’s a movie?

No, I can’t show my boobs on set.

Who do you think is better between a Ghanaian man and a Nigerian man?

I would say a Nigerian man, because Nigerian men are nicer and friendlier than Ghanaian men.

…And more generous?

No, I wouldn’t say so, it depends, but ask any Ghanaian woman and she would tell you who is better.

Have you dated a Nigerian man before?

No, I have not, and every time I am in Nigeria it is all work, work.

So, how do you know that Nigerian men are nicer if you have not dated one before?

You don’t have to date a man before you know he is caring, you don’t have to.

What does love mean to you?

If there were enough love in Africa, we would not be where we are now; there are so many wars, conflicts and so many other negative things going on around us, but if there is love, I guess this would not be happening.

What about romantic love, what does it mean to you?

I am not involved in any right now, so I cannot say much about that now.

How would you define love?

Unconditional, and there is conditional love also, but we should love unconditionally as God loves us.

What is between you and Jim Iyke?

Jim Iyke is my hommie, we are great together and I like him a lot. We are good friends and I appreciate his work.

But it is all over the Internet that you two dated?

No, we did not. You can ask him, and that’s why I told you we are hommie’s. We are really cool.

Who is your favourite Nigerian actress?

Genevieve Nnaji, I love her so much.

What does the future hold for Yvonne?

I would always be in the industry, I have a foundation, I want to be an entrepreneur, I want to see my own hairline grow big and I am still going to be here for a long time, Yvonne is not going anywhere.

Are you in a relationship?

No.

Why?

Nothing, I have been too busy, that’s all.

Have you had love at first sight?

No, I haven’t.

Do you have criteria you look out for in a man?

No, all those things happen naturally and it depends on what you have at the time.

Thank you for your time, it’s been great talking to you.

You are welcome.

His Final Days On Earth,What Ashley Nwosu Told Me....... Grace, His Wife

Ashley Nwosu died last Wednesday after he fell into coma at the Military Hospital, Yaba, where he was being  treated for severe liver problems. Showtime Celebrity visited the Victoria Island, Lagos home of the  veteran actor  during the week, where his Rivers State born wife, Grace Iberie Nwosu in her grief narrates the story of her last days with Ashley.

Madam, we commiserate with your family over the death of your husband. What actually happened to him?
He was sick for about two weeks and when his condition was getting out of hand, we rushed him to the Military hospital in Yaba. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with liver related problem  which he tried to battle for two weeks before he later died.
Even though  his doctors told us that we came to the hospital a bit late. Initially, he  didn’t know he had a liver problem though he noticed he was
more after the jump
having indigestion.
That was what brought us to the hospital, and at the end of the third day of his admission, after the results of  all the tests conducted on him were out, it was discovered that his liver had damaged badly.
At first, he was responding to treatment, but after a while, we went into coma and he didn’t come out of it.
Are you saying he didn’t notice the symptoms on time?
The symptom he noticed was indigestion; he was passing out the food that he consumed un-digested. When we noticed this development, we raised alarm as we rushed him to the hospital where he was given series of drugs to no avail.
How long have been married to him?
We have been married for twenty five years now. And we are blessed with our loving daughters. To God be the glory.
All these years you have lived with him, how would you describe Ashley?
He was a perfect husband, caring and loving ; He was everything to me, we never had any moment of disagreement that warranted us to bring a third party into our family.
Quite well, we had our disagreements as human beings, but it wasn’t to the extend of inviting a third party to settle our scores. And while the disagreements lasted, he would call me about two hundred times per day to ask how I was faring, just to make up for the face-off.  He was everything, a good husband and a good father to our children. I would miss him.
At the time, it was obvious that he was going to give up the ghost, how did you feel?
As God wants it. It’s just that I held him in my arms that early morning when he gave up the ghost.  Throughout the period of his illness, I was sleeping in the hospital with him. My daughter would come to the hospital in the morning to look after him, while I go to work. In the evening, I would return to take over from her.
At a point, when he became weak and unable to stand on his feet again, I would clean and feed him. Few days later, he went into coma and couldn’t take in food any longer. It was a trial period for me. The Doctors at the Military hospital did all they could to save him, but it’s just that it was too late.
How is life going to be without him around you?
As you rightly said, ‘God gives and God takes.” If God has not willed it, he wouldn’t have died. It’s the will of God, and He alone, will chart our course. We are going to depend solely on Him. He said, “ He is the husband to the widow.”
He is now my husband, I believe that he would take of me and my children that he left behind. The vacuum that had been created by Ashley’s death, God will fill it for us.
What was his last words to you?
Before he fell  into coma, he told me how he was passing through a gate that was in front of him. I rebuked him, saying that there was no gate here. Then, he asked me to move his sickbed closer to the window, where he would be able to hear what they were telling him. At that point, I started praying for him.
That same day, our pastor came to pray for him, and he told the pastor that a beautiful room had been prepared for him. The pastor was agitated as he refused to tell me what he told him.
I believe, it was the will of God and he has gone to rest in the bosom of the Lord. We are not going to express sorrow like people who doesn’t have hope because we know we are going to meet him again in the bosom of the Lord.
What are you going to miss about him?
A lot, he virtually run the home. He knows where everything is kept in the our house. He keeps the house clean because, while he lived  he was a clean man.  I’m a bit careless and I don’t have time. That aspect , I’m going to really miss him, and also,  the caring and love he showered on his children.
While he lived, and made his mark in Nollywood, were you at any time agitated whenever you watched his movies?
I don’t really feel anything. I see him as my husband in real life, and on television,  as an actor.  I don’t really believe he was the person acting the role, especially when he had to kiss on screen,  and had romantic affairs with the opposite sex.  I would tell him, this is not you, but somebody else, and we would laugh over it.
What attracted you to Ashley?
It was his strong will. He saw me at a time, he said he was looking for a wife. It was just miraculous, we had met briefly somewhere, and I had forgotten everything about him.
Co-occidentally, my friend’s fiancé  brought him to our house. He has an enviable sense of homour.
I first met him in 1984, we boarded the same taxi and he offered to pay for my fare. He gave the driver N5 and got a change of N3. Instead of keeping the change, he generously dashed me N1, and said , he would keep the rest.
I wondered how a man of his calibre would dash a lady N1. It was funny, but that was what attracted me to him. He had a caring attitude and he does not pretend.  Then, he had not started making a career in acting, rather he was into modelling and shooting of TV commercials.
