INTERNET TO RUN OUT OF WEB ADDRESSES IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS?

The internet is set to run out of web addresses within a matter of weeks, according to a man considered one of the "fathers of the internet".
Vint Cerf, who developed the internet with the US Department of Defence in the 1970s, said IP addresses were due to
run out in the next couple of weeks.
Mr Cerf developed the web protocol that allocated the addresses to each computer, website and internet connected device, the Sydney Morning Heraldreported.
But Mr Cerf said he had no idea the 4.3 billion addresses allocated in the protocol in 1977 would not be enough to reach demand.
"I thought it was an experiment and I thought that 4.3 billion would be enough to do an experiment," he was quoted by the Herald as saying.
"Who the hell knew how much address space we needed?"
Mr Cerf now works as Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google.
He was part of the team that developed the internet with the US Department of Defence's Advanced Research Projects Agency in the 1970s.
The industry is now moving towards an updated protocol which will offer trillions of addresses.
